The Truth About South Facing Houses
South facing houses are among the most misunderstood in Vastu Shastra. Many people reject south facing properties outright based on superstition — but this is not what the classical texts say. According to 📖 Manasara and 📖 Mayamata, every facing direction — including south — can be made highly Vastu compliant with the right room placement and main door positioning.
The south direction is governed by Yama — the lord of dharma, justice, and righteousness. South facing homes attract discipline, authority, and strength. Many successful politicians, judges, military personnel and business leaders live in south facing homes. The key is one critical rule: the main door must be in Pada 4 only.
Main Door Placement — The Only Auspicious Pada
The south face of a property is divided into 9 equal sections called padas. Unlike north and east facing homes which have multiple auspicious padas, a south facing house has only one correct pada for the main door — Pada 4 (Vitatha).
Pada 4 (Vitatha) is the only exception in the south face where the lord's energy is benign. Padas 8 and 9 near the south-west corner are considered the most harmful — placement of the main door there causes severe financial, health, and relationship issues according to classical Vastu texts.
Atmaikya Vastu's automatically identifies your main door's pada position and flags it instantly in your score.

- Build higher, heavier boundary wall on the south side
- Keep north and north-east open, lighter and lower
- Place pooja room in the north-east corner
